Proctors Regional Arts Awards Presented for the First Time...The Winners Are...

Schenectady, NY- On Sunday evening, June 15, 2008, at the Tony Awards Night 2008 “Backstage at the Tony's”, CEO of Proctors, Philip Morris presented five Proctors Regional Arts Awards. This was Proctors first time presenting these awards.

Proctors cast a large survey net to ask theatergoers the best performances in the greater Capital Region in the 2007-2008 season. Attendees at the Tony Event, Proctors Guild Members, Members of Proctors, Staff and Board Members were among those polled, totaling over 700 participants. As presenter of the awards, Proctors was excluded from the competition.

The Proctors Regional Arts Awards were created as a way for Proctors to support all of its regional friends and peers. There were no categories set in place; winners were simply those who received the most total votes.

Proctors is pleased to announce the following award winners:

Capital Repertory Theatre for Menopause the Musical

Capital Repertory Theatre is proud to be one of seventy-two professional theatres in LORT, the League of Resident Theatres. Today, these affiliated theatres provide thousands of artists with a support system for developing new work as well as reviving classics and perennial favorites. Hundreds of thousands of people now have the opportunity to experience the highest caliber of performance right in their own communities.

Hubbard Hall, Cambridge for Man of LaMancha

Hubbard Hall is a community arts center, dedicated to bringing the best of theatre, music, dance and the visual arts to our region. Founded as a not-for-profit corporation in 1978, Hubbard Hall has become a buzzing hub of cultural activity in our area, with dozens of programs and workshops, a critically-acclaimed theatre company and dance program, a co-op, village store, an art gallery and much more.

Schenectady Light Opera Company (SLOC) for Anything Goes

The Schenectady Light Opera Company is a nonprofit community theater organization dedicated to the presentation of quality theater productions. They own and operate a 260-seat theater located in Schenectady New York, and are proud to have presented more than 200 quality theatrical productions at various locations since 1926.

Stageworks/Hudson for Martha Mitchell Calling

Stageworks/Hudson is dedicated to bringing adventurous theater productions and programs of high artistic quality to the City of Hudson, Columbia County and the Mid-Hudson Valley. Central to their mission is Futures, an integrative program designed to move Stageworks to the forefront of new play development. Stageworks is both the experiment and the resource to infuse the whole life of the theater with a creative process that produces new ways of expressing, interpreting and sharing the human experience.

Art Night Schenectady

“Art Night” aims to introduce a wider audience to the unique vitality of the Arts, restaurants, and businesses that Schenectady has to offer. “Art Night” promotes interest in the arts by making it accessible, thereby strengthening the arts and business communities in Schenectady.

Proctors CEO noted that “we are thrilled to have our patrons, who come from the entire capital region, share their passion by selected from our peers the events of the year that were especially notable. It’s our version of the “Tony’s” from our community to the artists of our community.”

This is something that Proctors plans to make an annual event. It is hoped that as the years go on the awards will grow and more peers will be recognized.

There were about 150 guests at this years “Tony’s” event. While guests dined on fare catered by Mallozzi’s, this years presentation of the American Theatre Wing Tony Awards were broadcast on Proctors iwerks Extreme Screen in the GE Theatre at Proctors. WRGB’s news anchor Jerry Gretzinger served as the night’s emcee.
