A free public walking tour of Proctors new performing arts complex is scheduled for SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2008 FROM 10 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. The tour includes: Proctors mainstage with it’s new stage-house, now three times larger than the original stage, and a visit to the new star dressing rooms; Proctors new theatre, the GE Theatre with the iwerks extreme screen, with retractable theater seating for 434 people; the atrium and the new conference spaces.
Tours of the historic restored 1926-vaudeville palace and the two new theatres are given approximately once a month by trained volunteers. These tours offer an informal glimpse of the entire facility, including the new Proctors Guild Room, Proctors Museum and the district heat plant. The tour will last approximately 2 ½ hours.
The tour also features a 30 minute demonstration of the 1931 Wurlitzer Theatre Organ by Ned Spain. Mr. Spain explains how the organ was used with silent films, demonstrating all the sound effects it offers and concluding with the playing of audience requests.
Participants are requested to meet in front of the theatre doors in the Arcade.
Private tours for groups of fifteen or more can be arranged by calling Proctors Business Office at (518) 382-3884.
